New Deal

A city located in southwest Lubbock County, Texas, Wolfforth shares a boundary at Alcove Street with the City of Lubbock. Wolfforth is part of the Lubbock Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the population was approximately 3,600.
History
New Deal's foundation occurred when the railroad track was laid from Plainview to Lubbock in 1909. At first known as Monroe, after Santa Fe line promoter Monroe G. Abernathy, the town was developed as a train station loading area. Because a city in Texas already existed with the name Monroe City, the USPS altered the town's name to New Deal. This name, in turn, was inspired by Franklin D. Roosevelt's programs and to match the consolidated school system's moniker. In 1970, the township was finally incorporated by the vote of its citizens, with a total population of 500.
